{My Childhood Home}

1816greenview_4

Today for Art Journal Fridays, we’re going to take another look back. I guess I’m feeling pretty nostalgic lately.

Find a photo of your childhood home or something that represents it. Slap that down on the page...paint, play, doodle. What memories do you have of this house? Are they good? Are they bad? It’s OK to journal about both...this doesn’t have to be ALL peaches ’n cream...

Fortunately, I have some pretty good memories of this house. My home in Portage, Michigan until 1977. We moved to Arizona while I was in the third grade. Life was pretty simple back then: I loved TV, Donny Osmond, Laura Ingalls Wilder, “The Brady Bunch”, reading EVERYTHING; I remember catching fireflies during summer dusk, coming in all itchy from the grass, Saturday night baths and then watching “Big Time Wrestling” with my dad (he loved to laugh at it), the magical Christmases (like the one where I still swear I could hear bells and reindeer on the roof), learning to ride a bike and to roller skate, where we built snow forts in the front yard...the house was SO big and so was the backyard. I can still remember being petrified of the Wicked Witch of the West when watching “The Wizard of Oz” and burying my face in my mom’s arms so I could hide. The one time I got spanked for being REALLY naughty. The several weeks when my dad went to Arizona to start his job, my mom got laid up in bed because her arthritis was so bad, and my brother (who is four years older than me) took care of us...my brother and I walking home from school together...the times when my mom would drive the short ride over to pick us up (we lived right around the corner)...when EVERYONE knew me as “Ron’s Little Sister”...And “Nosy Sharon” living across the street, who was ALWAYS looking out her front door and knew EVERYTHING that was going on in the neighborhood.....I could really go on and on, but I’ll spare you! :-)

Hmmmm....I hope to be able to show this page soon. Have fun with it and make it your own!

Happy journaling...

(Oh and on a side note: I found out yesterday that all Recollections stores will be closing in January. This is a chain of scrapbooking supply stores that is owned by Michaels. For some reason, Michaels has decided to re-focus their energy on their main stores and the Aaron Bros. chain. Since I really like shopping at Recollections once in a while, I really find this disappointing...)
