It’s Friday, and time again for Art Journal Fridays Holiday Edition! Today, we are going to focus on the vast commercialization of Christmas and CELEBRATE your favorite brand that exemplifies the holidays for you, that gives you a warm fuzzy about this time of year. Yes, I know, Charlie Brown was ahead of his time on this one...It’s gotten overly commercial, all about the presents, the purchases, etc. But doesn’t a yummy, hot Peppermint Mocha with the whipped cream and red sprinkles stored in such a festively designed cup well up that cheerful, giving feeling within you? It does me.
My commercial eye developed when I was a youngin’...I was obsessed with McDonalds while growing up (NOT anymore!) and always loved seeing the Christmas-decorated bags making their way through the drive-thru window or over the counter. The Coke bottles with the Santa packaging, yeah, those REALLY did it for me, too! I’m a glutton, a commercial baby, and I’ll sing it to the hilltops!
So get out that 2-liter of Coke in your fridge, pull off the label...maybe you’re into the merry bags of In-and-Out burgers, the nifty designs on those Trader Joe’s bags...who knows? Whatever packaging it may be, use it on your page today. (Even holiday postage stamps count—yes, the seasonal designs on stamps are commercial, too!) Journal about it—what does it do for you—or not...this could be a more visual page for you...get out those holiday colors and splash a bit of merriment on your page! Turn up the Vince Guaraldi Trio on the stereo or your iPod and salute Charlie Brown...he was so ON.
