{Books A-Plenty}

Happy Wednesday! Trying to get through this week...tidying up loose ends on 1000 Artist Journal Pages and working on an intricate design for another book dummy...Oh, and I still need to get my house clean for my brother-in-law’s impending arrival this weekend. Mucho to do!

Well, on to the books: First up is one that I’m SURE you have seen, heard about and/or have in your collection. It’s high on my list of must-haves for journal artists. NOT to be confused with the book I’m doing because they are not related, The 1000 Journals Project was published earlier this year by Chronicle...a wonderful collection of journal pages produced in the project and neat little stories about the journals’ journeys. The project’s creator, someguy, has really given us a gift with this one. Well-done design...If you haven’t picked it up yet, DO. I see something new every time I open it.

Drawing From Life, The Journal as Art by Jennifer New has been in bookstores for a couple of years, and contains some wonderful pages by various artists. I love the variety of styles in this one...a good read and a great treat for the eyes...The design is tastefully done, allowing the journal pages to be the focal point. Jennifer New features journals from Lynda Barry, David Byrne, Maira Kalman, and many others...

And last, but not least, today is Fabric Art Journals by Pam Sussman. Published by my client Quarry, this book covers how to “make, sew and embellish journals from cloth and fiber”. There are projects included for all skill levels, and an AWESOME gallery in the back. A techniques section at the front of the book shows embroidery stitches, fancy closures, painting fabrics, ways to applique and more. Great step-by-step instructions with illustrations. Even if you’re not into fiber art, you should take a look at this one. You never know where ideas will come from, and you can find something in here to incorporate into paper journals...

That’s it for today...back to work...Make it a GREAT Wednesday!
